Phew! This piece of godly "love academy", it took me a good 5 rounds of scrutinizing, plus 10 rounds of frustration to scoop out some partial, potential meaning. 如果再读几遍, 吾黑发就要一夜愁成白发了, 在此提倡英文白话文! 打倒英语文言文! 

You did fabulous job by translating Huang Xiang’s poem.我认为 在英译文结尾处与原诗句意境相同, 然而用字比喻稍有不同. I have met Mr. Huang Xiang and had briefly talked with him in a hallway. I wasn’t aware that his poems are so well-known. I am surprised that one ID here in Jiaoyou8 wrote about her friend delivering Huang Xiang’s book from the U.S to Beijing to Shanghai!  

The 4 definitions of love are rather philosophically abstractive than practical. The explanations are more difficult for me to understand than to give out my love itself. Since I am so simple minded, I’d give my simple interpretation:

 1. 亲情之爱Affection is the most natural feeling within blood ties, for good or for bad.

2. 友爱Friendships are formed based upon common interests or shared goals. Friendship is exclusive to outsiders. Friendship eases one’s loneness through ones’ life being witnessed by others and through sharing enjoyment.

3. 钟情之爱Eros- you are in passionate, romantic type of love that is different from sexual lust. This type of love should be treated as commonplace, otherwise it would drive the lover and the beloved one insane.

4. 仁爱Caritas (unconditional love) is to love one without regard of the subject’s quality. If you decided to render your charity, do it quietly and privately without making a public show.
